BLUE PERIOD
E-Catalog Available
Blue is a color spectrum closely associated with the adjective “calm.” Several pieces of literature examining the relationship between color and psychology state that blue can evoke a sense of coolness, peace, passivity, and calm. However, in an era where the onslaught of information reaches us to the deepest recesses of life, can we still experience calm? Or do we need to redefine what constitutes calm?

It’s a classic paradox: the more we know, the less we actually know. This assumption remains relevant, especially in today’s context, where information is available in various media: text, visual, and audio. The internet, as a platform increasingly accessible to humans, has led to an unstoppable spread of information. This has led to a declining level of calm. Again, this is caused—at least in part—by the increasing amount of knowledge we gain, which may not be what we need to know.

This period is a time when data is a two-pronged weapon. It can make people stronger, in an effort to achieve relative peace. It can also weaken them, because after all, humans have hearts, which may unconsciously disrupt peace, even tending towards a lack of peace.
“Blue Period,” the inaugural title of Batu 8 Studio’s Color Display Project, invites individuals to rethink serenity. The seven curated works by artist Putu ‘Bonuz’ Sudiana offer a space for self-discovery, a search for the meaning of serenity, or simply a redefinition of serenity. The color blue, the primary visual language of each painting, offers a chance to rediscover our own personal sense of serenity.
